On April 27, 2009, Backyard Sports was honored by the City of White Plains Youth Bureau for their work on behalf of the children of White Plains. Mayor Joseph Delfino along with program directors Frank Williams and Martin Rudow made the presentation to coaches Vin Minotti and Danny Bernstein at a ceremony at the White Plains Cineplex.

Mr. Rudow praised Backyard Sports for the scholarships extended to the Slater Children’s Center which allows at risk youths to attend their afterschool sport programs at no cost. At these activiites the children have the benefits of working with the Backyard Sport coaches and playing with teammates from all over the Westchester County area.

In addition to the scholarships, Backyard Sports has initiated an at sight after school soccer program at the George Washington Elementary School.
