Backyard Sports is excited to enter its eighth year working with the young athletes of Westchester.
Backyard Sports Cares, our not for profit organization runs programs in the five heavily underserved areas in the county: Port Chester, Mt. Vernon, Yonkers, and areas in New Rochelle and White Plains. Our special need activities for children with cognitive and social challenges impact hundreds each year. Our dedicated staff of coaches and volunteers come from over 20 neighborhoods and communities throughout Westchester. New programs this season include an afterschool partnership with the Elm Street Youth Center in Yonkers and the launch of BYS FC, an afterschool soccer club in 3-4 elementary schools for children who cannot afford the fees of travel soccer. In Backyard Sport news we are entering our 2nd year of the BYS Prep Basketball League. The program consists of the highest level instruction combined with the opportunity to play in a competitive in house league. The activity is open to 3rd-9th grade basketball players. Starting in mid September, we are collaborating with the Scarsdale Recreation Department for the Fall Prep Soccer program. Over 500 Kindergarten through 2nd grade players will have a chance to learn and enjoy the game of soccer with the BYS staff.
