For the 5th consecutive summer, Backyard Sports collaborated with the City of New Rochelle to partner in Camp Shape, a four week program which brings a sport specific recreational camp to over 200 young athletes. Backyard Sports provided equipment and over 25 coaches for a comprehensive tennis and soccer program. Peter Nestel, the Men’s and Women’s tennis coach at Purchase College was joined by many of his players and a host of Westchester High School tennis players to bring 10 and under tennis training to many first time players. A portion of the camp was underwritten by a grant from the United States Tennis Association. Highlights from the soccer program included a culminating world cup soccer day where all the players participated in skill competitions and a mini soccer tournament. In mid July the soccer players and their families were guests of the NY Red Bulls which treated the group to a stadium tour and field access during the warm ups. For many of the attendees, the trip marked their first visit to a professional sporting event.
