Backyard Sports in conjunction with the Greenwich Stars will be launching a new Fall Basketball League that runs from September 9 – November 18. The league is for boys and girls going into third through ninth grades.
The games will prepare players for their travel, school, and recreational teams. Players can sign up with a previously organized team or register individually and will be placed on a squad. All teams are helmed by the outstanding Backyard Sport Coaches led by Vin Minotti, the boys Varsity Coach at Rye Country Day School. Vin led his teams to New York State Championships in 2010 and 2012.
This is a new and innovative program unmatched by any existing league in our area. All participants receive the following:
- 8 week season of competitive games including playoffs for qualifying teams
- All games to be played on Sundays.
- Players may sign up individually or as a 10-12 person team
- All players coached by BYS coaches and staff. No parent coaches. Each player will receive significant playing time in each game. All games refereed by top officials. In addition to the league games, each player will be eligible to participate in Sunday sessions of coach supervised scrimmage and pick up games at Purchase College. Players will also be able to attend mid week clinics led by Coach Minotti and his staff. All of these programs are offered at no charge and included in the league registration fee.
- All players’ parents will be invited to attend Coaching Sessions intended to give parents the tools and skills necessary to coach their children’s travel and recreation teams. Emphasis will be placed on designing practice sessions and teaching the steps for skill acquisition
- Games are held on Saturdays and Sundays at Purchase College (Purchase, NY) and Carmel Academy (270 Lake Avenue, Greenwich, CT).
- Players from Connecticut and Westchester are all welcome.
- This is a competitive program designed to prepare players of all ability levels the opportunity to prepare for their upcoming winter season. No other program offers this comprehensive level of play and training.
