BYS B-ball Prep League Gets Jump On 10th Season

10 year logoFor the past ten years, the Backyard Sports Basketball Prep Program has opened the hallowed gates of competitive basketball to players of all skill levels.  There are dozens of reasons — and studies to back them up — as to why kids who play sports flourish.  And after ten years, 1,000 kids and hundreds of games in our Basketball Prep League alone, we’ve seen how powerful and life-changing it is for boys and girls.  More importantly, we’ve heard it from the parents, travel coaches, town coaches and the kids that we work with.

The Backyard Sports Prep League combines competitive play with skill and tactical instruction. Players participate in our in house league staffed by Westchester’s leading high school and college coaches. Preceding each league game, players participate in a sixty minute varsity practice paired with supervised scrimmages. Every player is individually assessed by our coaches and given tailored instruction based on their unique skill level and experience.

“By running the basketball prep league in the fall, we’re preparing third through ninth graders for competitive winter season leagues in their towns,” said Vin Minotti, Program Director, Backyard Sports. “We’re not competing with community programs, we’re providing a source of help, inspiration and building confidence in the players, so they are primed to play and act as change makers on their teams and in their community when winter season kicks in.”

The parents and kids who are drawn to our programs want to take part in sports like they “used to be.” It’s a holistic approach that goes beyond the scoreboard to encourage fun, build character, leadership skills and team players who are fit physically, mentally and socially, because those are the traits that breed lifetime success and a love of the game.
